burro

There are organized trips for adults and children or small groups. For children they offer also short trips of half an hour. The ride is in the midst of the Valle Gran Rey, one of the most beautiful valleys of La Gomera, on a nature-left open area "Burro Parque La Gomera". Beside numerous donkeys, the park also offers several riding horses.

The Park’s main objective is a kind-fair attitude and breeding of different donkey races. Carol and Fernando are the mentors and managers of this park as well as being in charge of entertaining us with various excursions. Their trips are for children and adults; we depend on the animal protection standards of the ”International Donkey Protecting League". They also offer horses to experienced riders in the excursions as an interesting alternation.

burro parque la gomera Donkeys have been used for over 5,000 years as load animals. On the Canary Islands the donkey was an important workhorse. Many families on the island owned at least one donkey to perform hard daily work. They used them for ploughing fields, for dragging loads (up to 130 kg), for moving building material as well as to transport sheep from the mountains. On the Canary Islands donkeys are threatened of becoming extinct.
