The mounts of Anaga are located to the north of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This protected land was catalogued in 1987 as Natural Park and in 1994 as Rural Park and is one of the prettiest corners of the Island of Tenerife. There are steep precipices as well as mountains and cliffs, which has caused that this place has stopped in time. With an age of 7.5 million years, it is one of the oldest zones of the Island of Tenerife.

This Natural Park has the most important laurel forest in Tenerife and one of the few world-wide reserves of forest of this type (original vegetation of the Tertiary time) and that has supposed and supposes a very important resource of water for the area. Anaga is an ideal destination for the lovers of the nature. It has a large network of footpaths that allow us to enter in the forest of Laurisilva and begin descending from 1000 meters to the sea level and noticing how the vegetation changes along the way.

There are 5 main routes that vary according their degree of difficulty and duration. For example, we can start off from La Casa Forestal, go through the zone called Las Vueltas and finish in Taganana (it lasts 3 hours and it is of average difficulty). It is a fantastic sensation to go into the cloudbank and to contemplate unimaginable views.

This place was related from the conquest to the use of its natural resources. From taking advantage of the wood for the Sugar talents or Coal making (Las Carboneras), to the advantage of the water streams for the irrigation of the sugar plantations in Taganana.

Anaga is also gastronomy, from fresh fish that we can eat in Taganana and that still being fished in its coasts, to very typical dishes such as “escaldón de gofio”, “puchero” goat or rabbit meat with “papas arrugadas” (salty boiled potatoes).
