museo de los cetaceos de canariasWhen visiting the museum, you will be able to discover the different characteristics and lifestyle of whales and dolphins through many different images and sound, life size replicas, scaled models, skeletons and biological exhibits.

This is an ideal museum for family holiday trips in Lanzarote. Many dolphins and whales surround the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic waters.

This museum is the only one in Europe and one of the fewest in the world to dedicate exclusively to the knowledge of these animals.

museo de los cetaceos 2

Outside the museum is a giant skeleton of what appears to be a whale - giving you an idea of what to expect inside. The centre is divided into various rooms: the first one is an introduction to the cetacean, another one is dedicated to life in the ocean, a third one takes us through the main families of these animals which live in the Canaries and it ends with a space dedicated to the conservation and study of the cetacean and the sea.

In these rooms the visitor will come across around 300 photographs taken in the Archipelago, an exclusive film, dolphin replicas and other skeletal remains representing the 21 of the 27 species that live in the Canaries. Numerous Dolphin and Whale sight seeing tours are also available from Puerto Calero Marina.

There are guided tours around the museum in various languages.

On entering Puerto Calero you will see a very large statue made of whalebones.
